She conveys a sense of a woman’s inner landscape and her connection to her environment.Juliet says, “I choose to work in thread, using the sewing machine as a drawing tool, as I love the extremely expressive quality of the thread drawn line. All of my pieces begin as pencil/ mixed media drawings on paper, working directly from the life model. In designing the thread drawings, I carefully choose colours, patterns, textures from my large collection of preloved fabrics to convey the emotion, character and atmosphere that I wish to communicate in the piece.”Check out Juliet’s website to learn more about her workIn stock

Juliet D Collins

Embroidered thread drawings celebrating women

Juliet D Collins works with textiles and mixed media. She creates beautiful embroidered thread drawings. They celebrate women and her love for Melbourne’s vibrant spaces. Juliet was born in Scotland and studied Fine Art in Edinburgh. She has continued to create and study sculpture, drawing, mixed media; traditional craft forms. She has been exhibiting her art in Melbourne since 2007. Juliet’s work is strongly grounded in her drawing skills. She strives to portray the immediacy and spontaneity of the drawn line in all her work whatever the medium. For many years now Juliet has been exploring the unique expressive potential of thread as an artistic medium. Her journey with thread began when she started to meet regularly with a group of like minded creative women. She learnt about freehand machine embroidery and was inspired to translate her life drawings of the female nude into textile art pieces. Through these textile artworks she aims to explore the female form and psyche, depicting a woman’s sense of herself and her connection to her world. Her work is expressive, at times deeply personal.
