My creative journey began in the unexpected calm of 2020’s lockdown. Stuck at home and craving something to brighten my space, I started painting vibrant, colorful ceramics for my flat, as I couldn’t find anything on the market that matched my love for bold patterns.Fast forward to 2024, and my passion for color and design evolved into something new: jewelry. As a lover of statement earrings myself, I finally took the plunge to create my own accessories. My jewelry is directly inspired by the ceramics I first painted, from their shapes to their playful patterns. Each design begins with a sketch on paper, followed by vectorization on my computer, then laser-cutting and hand-painting right in my Melbourne studio. Every piece is proudly handmade in Australia, reflecting the bold, vibrant spirit that drives my work.
Avoid Direct Sunlight: Just like us, these beauties prefer a little shade. Keep them out of direct sunlight to prevent any fading. Keep Them Dry: Water and wood aren’t the best of friends. No swimming, showering, or dancing in the rain with these on, please! Handle with Care: These pieces are crafted with love and precision. They’re not fans of rough handling or getting jumbled up with other items.

Funky Zebra

Unique Hand-Painted Wooden Statement Jewelry

Hey there! 👋🏻I’m Anaïs Lobmeyer, a French artist and designer who traded baguettes for barbecues when I made Melbourne my home in 2019.I’ve got a bit of an obsession with bold patterns, vibrant colors, and statement accessories — because, honestly, we need more colors in this world! My passion for all things bright and audacious inspired me to launch Release The Zebra, my branding and design studio, in 2021. Since then, I’ve been on a mission to create unique, eye-catching designs for playful brands and creative industry festivals. (www.releasethezebra.com)As someone who firmly believes that self-expression should be as colorful as possible, I couldn’t resist the urge to dive into the world of accessories. In 2024, I kicked off Funky Zebra: a vibrant side project where I could let my creativity run wild and experiment with fun, colorful designs on a more personal level. Every jewel that you will find here is made by myself, from the pattern I designed to the hand-painting.Now, if you’re curious about my zebra obsession, here’s a fun tidbit: in French, we call high-potential individuals “zebras.” The whole idea behind Release The Zebra and Funky Zebra is to help you (and me!) unleash that potential through art and design. 🦓Every piece you find here is a part of that journey: a celebration of individuality, a splash of color, and, most importantly, a whole lot of fun. Thanks for reading me and, above all, thanks for supporting handmade art! 💜
