We start by designing on paper (There’s something about the feeling of jotting something down roughly to cement it in reality, it really helps to solidify the idea) then refining it digitally. All our pieces are made from Stoneware clay that has been rolled out into sheets and cut into shapes that then stuck together, once we have the general shape, we manipulate it into the final form by pressing, squeezing and pushing the clay. Once the form is completed, we then move on to the surface decoration. Each color needs to be tested; you never know what magic might happen in the kiln! After the colors are tested, we etch on, and hand paint every design. Some colors need at least 2 to 4 coats to ensure good coverage, making decorating alone, a long process. We the fire our pieces twice – we bisc to 1000 degrees (11hours) and then glaze fire to 1300 degrees (around 14hrs). Pottery is a long and slow process but the pieces that come out at the end are always worth it
