Upcycled Gender-Neutral Streetwear

Sustainable, Inclusive, Adventurous Perfectly imperfect, upcycled gender-neutral threadsBut it isn’t just about clothing—it’s about creating a movement towards a more sustainable and inclusive fashion industry. We aim to bridge the gap for non-binary individuals by creating clothing that respects diverse body types and gender expressions by using materials already in existance. In mid-2023, amidst the creative chaos of our head designers studio, FrankenStitch was born. The name reflects the essence of upcycling—combining fragments of discarded materials into fresh, unique creations. Our mascot, Stitch the platypus, symbolizes this spirit of transformation, embodying the idea of taking different elements and weaving them into something extraordinary.Behind the scenes, there is Gina (she/her) – the upcycler/sewist and creator of all pieces, obsessed with sustainability, animals and the planet and her same-sex partner; Anja (she/they) – digital design extraordinaire, proudly disabled and passionate about inclusivity, accessibility and diversity. There’s also our mascot Stitch (they/them); Franken-Stitched platypus.
Stitch embodies our ideal customer – a FrankenStitch-ed platypus! They seem like a creature outside the norm, one that doesn’t quite fit in and quite Frankly, they are. Stitch celebrates our differences, believing beauty comes in all shapes, sizes and forms. They know that fashion can heal, not harm, both the planet and us, challenging gender stereotypes, breaking down barriers & working towards a more sustainable and inclusive fashion industry, and world. It can be done, one Stitch at a time.
Our garments are crafted from a mix of materials, including denim coffee sacks donated by Ripe Coffee, discarded jeans and tees and tartan from kilts. Each piece that is created tells a story of creativity and sustainability. We try to only use materials that would otherwise be destined for landfill to stop some of that 200,000 tonne of textiles going to landfill each year (in Aus alone). We have taken part in some cool collabs like our project with Hanzmonstas, where we bought new life to their decommissioned tees and Julie Buttons (NZ artist) who hand crafted wooden block prints of NZSL symbols, which we then used in our pieces (the symbol was for “I love you” of course). Our garments are made for adventures – we design and craft them with durability in mind. We include repair pataches and provide a free repair service (for life) for our overalls and bags and also a “return to us” policy at end of life. Get in touch to hear more.
Custom orders available for overalls, scarves, tees ad sling bags. 50% deposit required, with email and phone number and I can get in touch for more info.
